Deserae Richards has a diverse work experience starting from 2011. From 2011 to 2015, they worked at James Madison University in various positions, including ESOL Instructor, Graduate Assistant & Undergraduate Assistant, and Teacher Assistant. Deserae also worked as a Substitute Teacher at Harrisonburg City Schools from 2012 to 2015. From 2014 to 2015, they served as a Reading Specialist at Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In 2019, they started working as an Adjunct Instructor at James Madison University and continued until 2021. During this time, they also assumed the role of University Supervisor. Deserae joined Seesaw Learning in 2020 as an Associate Account Executive: K-12 Partnerships and later transitioned to the role of Curriculum Developer in 2022. In the same year, they became an Adjunct Faculty member at Eastern Mennonite University. Additionally, they worked as an English as a Second Language Teacher at Harrisonburg City Schools from 2015 to 2021 and as an Adjunct English as a Second Language Instructor at Study Group from 2020 to 2020.

Deserae Richards completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Teaching, with a specialization in Modern Foreign Language, from James Madison University. Deserae attended the university from 2010 to 2014. Following their undergraduate studies, Deserae pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree at James Madison University from 2014 to 2015, with a focus on teaching.
