Michael Dobson

Professor Michael Dobson has been the Director of the Shakespeare Institute since 2011. He has taught at universities including Oxford, Harvard, the University of London and the University of Illinois at Chicago, and he has lectured on Shakespeare in more than thirty countries: he is co-director of the Shakespeare Centre, China, in Nanjing, and holds honorary degrees from Lund University in Sweden and Craiova University in Romania, as well as the Craiova Shakespeare Festival International Shakespeare Prize. His publications include The Oxford Companion to Shakespeare and Shakespeare: A Playgoer's and Reader's Guide (both co-authored with Stanley Wells), The Making of the National Poet (1992), Performing Shakespeare's Tragedies Today (2006), Shakespeare and Amateur Performance (2011), and England's Elizabeth (2002) which he co-wrote with his wife and world authority on literary tourism, Professor Nicola Watson. Michael also acts as a consultant to theatre directors and actors and is an Honorary Governor of the RSC and Trustee of Flute Theatre.
