Shakey’s is and has always been about providing great times and great memories. When Sherwood “Shakey” Jonhson and Ed Plummer opened the first Shakey’s Pizza Parlor and Ye Public House, they had one thing in mind – opening a great place where people could get together, eat, drink and enjoy favorite ragtime standards. On a Friday, they created a hang-out for beer drinkers, pizza eaters and music lovers. Johnson entertained guests by playing the piano and Plummer served the beer. Over the weekend, money from the beer sales was used to sell the Original Thin Crust pizza. Shakey’s gained a huge following and the increased sales eventually allowed our two founders to branch out into different states in the US, including Oregon in 1956, Washington and California in 1957. In 1975, San Miguel Corporation thought of locally franchising Shakey’s to promote their draft beer. A year later, a change of ownership to Golden Pizza Incorporated took place, and as the saying goes…”the rest is history.” This first ever Shakey’s branch opened in March 15, 1975 along Makati Avenue, with its great tasting and crisp pizzas, unique chicken and mojos tandem, flowing cold draft beer, cheerful service and fun atmosphere, became an instant hit in Manila. This first store paved the way for many more very successful branches that eventually made Shakey’s to be known as the Home of the Original Thin Crust Pizza, The World’s Greatest Pizza and has become a household name that it is today. We’ve gone a long way from our roots of Ye Public House to the Shakey’s that people know and love today. As of 2015, Shakey’s is the first and only food chain to achieve double digit growth in sales for 12 straight years. What’s next for Shakey’s? Well, to date Shakey’s has over 200 stores nationwide providing good times and great memories. Shakey’s is expected to continue achieving teamwork, significant milestones as result of the team’s passion and dedication to consistently WOW our guest.
