Lastly, Carly worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Northern Illinois University. In this role, they worked as a teaching assistant for four different courses, consisting between 20-50 students per class for two different sociology professors. Carly also assisted in a lab one day a week for a semester in an intro to sociological methods class consisting of 20 students. Carly helped students organize their research project assignments, answered student questions, and graded bi-weekly papers.

Carly Besler has a Master of Arts in Sociology and Criminology from Northern Illinois University, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Northern Illinois University, and an Associate of Arts from McHenry County College. Carly also has a Responsible Conduct of Research certificate from Northern Illinois University.
