James Olsen has a diverse and extensive work experience. James currently serves as a B-767 First Officer at FedEx, a role they have held since August 2021. Prior to this, James worked as a Partner at SharpRank starting in April 2020. In November 2020, they joined Tactical Air Support, Inc. as a Senior Tactical Systems Analyst. Additionally, James has been serving as a C-40A (B-737) Aircraft Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve since November 2020.

James then became an FA-18F Pilot and Naval Officer, holding positions such as maintenance director, assistant training director, and physical security officer, until February 2014. From March 2014 to December 2016, James served as a TOPGUN Instructor and FA-18A-F Pilot, where they mentored top fighter pilots and led a team of TOPGUN instructors. James then became an Assistant Operations Officer from August 2018 to May 2019, followed by a role as an F-35C Requirements Officer, responsible for coordinating fleet feedback and writing future requirements for the Navy's F-35C Joint Strike Fighter program, from May 2019 to October 2020.

Throughout their naval career, James has demonstrated leadership, expertise, and responsibility in various positions, including directing training, managing government assets, and conducting combat missions.

James Olsen's education history includes a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, which they obtained from 2018 to 2020. Prior to that, they attended the United States Naval Academy from 2002 to 2006, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. In 2014, they also attended the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN). Additionally, they hold several certifications including an Airline Transport Pilot certification and a Certified Flight Instructor certification in Instrument and Multi-Engine, both obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration in August 2020.
