Stephen serves as Shattuck’s Deputy General Counsel and Vice President of Intellectual Property. He joined Shattuck in 2021 after spending nearly 15 years in private practice with Vinson & Elkins L.L.P. and Baker Botts L.L.P. Stephen’s practice focused on federal litigation, particularly in intellectual property and technology disputes involving the life sciences and digital media. At Shattuck, he is responsible for, among other things, the company’s intellectual property portfolio. Stephen has a J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law, a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.S. from Louisiana State University, and a B.S. from Texas A&M University. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He is also a longtime author of the annually updated O’Connor’s Federal Intellectual Property Codes Plus, serves on the Board of Directors of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, and regularly volunteers with the trial advocacy program at the University of Texas School of Law.
