Andy Gillis has a diverse work experience spanning over 19 years. Andy started their career as a Multimedia Production Assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2004. Andy then worked as a Java Consultant at Amentra, Inc., where they developed Java business solutions and mentored clients.

In 2008, Andy joined ION Healthcare as a Java Programmer/Analyst, where they created and maintained a complex Java web-based electronic medical record system. Andy also provided IT support, network administration, and conducted business analysis.

In 2009, they became a Systems Administrator at the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation, where they administered application software systems and managed projects with significant agency impact. Andy also wrote complex SQL queries and enforced application rules.

From 2010 to 2014, Andy worked as an Automated Software Testing Engineer at the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission. Andy ensured the proper application of testing practices and tools, wrote automated testing frameworks and tests, and developed and enacted testing strategies.

In 2014, they joined ProLink Solutions as an Automated Test Engineer. Andy collaborated closely with developers and product owners to test new and existing features, built automated tests, and used tools like Visual Studio, C#, and Selenium Webdriver.

In 2015, Andy had roles at hybris software as a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer and at Healthgrades as a Software Engineer. At hybris software, they served as the senior QA resource on a big data Java ETL application and designed and implemented automated test cases. At Healthgrades, they designed, developed, and implemented software solutions and systems.

From 2018 to 2023, Andy worked at Black Knight in multiple roles. As a Senior Java Software Engineer, they developed and maintained Java-based applications within a services-oriented architecture. Andy also documented components and applications. In their role as Senior Cloud Engineer, they built end-to-end solutions for Black Knight's cloud platform, continuously improving its performance and maintainability. Andy also served as a Scrum Master for different teams.

Currently, Andy works at Shaw Systems Associates, LLC as a Lead Software Developer. Andy leads and manages an Agile team that develops Spring Boot microservices using modern software development techniques. Andy also serves as a Scrum Master and advises on agile processes and architectural roadmap.

Andy Gillis has a strong educational background in Information Systems and Mass Communications. Andy earned a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Information Systems from Virginia Commonwealth University - School of Business, which they pursued from 2010 to 2013. Prior to that, they obtained a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Information Systems and application development from the same institution, studying from 2004 to 2006. Andy's undergraduate education took place at Virginia Commonwealth University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mass Communications with a focus on public relations. This degree was obtained from 1997 to 2003. In addition to their formal education, Andy has also obtained various certifications in areas such as diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, agile practices, and scrum development. These certifications further enhance their skill set and professional qualifications.
