Established in 2010 by two young visionary Ethiopian entrepreneurs, Shayashone (SYS) PLC derived its name from two rivers, Shaya and Shone which are found in Bale and Jimma respectively.
SYS stands as an icon of transformative change, specializing not only in agriculture and agri-business services but also extending its reach into the educational sector with a profound commitment to serving the unserved. SYS has made a permanent mark, impacting over 10 million farmers in Ethiopia and neighboring countries through dynamic partnerships with local, international, and governmental organizations. The company's expansion into the educational sector reflects its commitment to holistic development and addressing diverse needs.
SYS’s journey of success spans over a decade, during which it has implemented successful projects. This remarkable trajectory includes the training of more than 7000 agriculture extension workers and the arrangement of agriculture technology demonstrations in over 10,000 villages across Ethiopia. At the heart of the accomplishments lies the Hermetic Storage Technology (Purdue Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags), a pioneering solution that has gained widespread acceptance as the most successful technology penetration to prevent post-harvest losses.
SYS also plays a pivotal role in importing, commercializing, and distributing vegetable seeds from the European Africa Seed Initiative (Easiseeds) and livestock vaccines and drugs from Zoetis, the largest global animal health company.
