Joey Grassia

Joey Grassia is the current Founder & Co-CEO at Shef. Joey has also been previously employed as the Vice President, Communications at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative from February 2017 to November 2021, National Spokesperson and Senior Advisor to Sen. Tim Kaine at Hillary for America from August 2016 to November 2016, and Press Secretary to Vice President Joe Biden at Obama for America from March 2012 to November 2012, among other positions.

Joey Grassia has dedicated their career to public service. Joey began their journey working as a Volunteer Interviewer for the Appointments Team during the Biden-Harris Transition in December 2020 to January 2021. From there, they went on to be the Deputy Press Secretary to Vice President Joe Biden at The White House from December 2010 to March 2012. After their time spent serving our country's government, they became the Press Secretary to Vice President Joe Biden at Obama for America from March 2012 to November 2012.

Most recently, they were the Vice President, Communications at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative from February 2017 to November 2021. In this role, they led the communications team for a fast-growing philanthropic organization working at the intersection of technology, impact investing, policy and issue advocacy. As a senior advisor to CZI's co-founders, they oversaw all executive media strategy and public engagement, as well as general media engagement around CZI’s mission across science, education, housing and criminal justice reform.

Joey Grassia is also no stranger to politics. In August 2016 they became the National Spokesperson and Senior Advisor to Sen. Tim Kaine at Hillary for America where they served until November 2016.

Joey Grassia's educational career involved completing a Bachelor's Degree at Colgate University in Political Science and Government, as well as Peace and Conflict Studies.
