Joan Carr

Joan Carr is an experienced communications and community relations professional specializing in public health and non-profit sectors. Currently serving as Public Information Officer at the Shelby County Government Health Department since September 2018, Joan is responsible for internal and external communications. Previous roles include Public Health Coordinator for Risk Communications and HR Coordinator for the General Sessions Court Clerk's Office. Joan also held the position of Director of Public Relations and Advancement at Girl Scouts Heart of the South, where responsibilities included public relations, grant writing, and event sponsorships. As Vice President of Community Affairs at Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region, Joan excelled in media relations, fundraising, and volunteer management. Joan's media experience includes roles as News Producer at WREG-TV, WAAY-TV, and WBRC-TV. Educational qualifications include a BA in International Studies/Spanish from Rhodes College and further studies at the University of Memphis and the University of Memphis School of Public Health.
