Software Engineer at Shelf Engine

Max Steele is currently a software engineer at Shelf Engine. Prior to this, they were the head of demand forecasting engineering at Wayfair from October 2018 to July 2020. In this role, they created and led Wayfair's demand forecasting from inception in January 2019. Max built a team of data engineers and ML engineers to partner with and accelerate data science work-streams, optimizing logistics and supply-chain efficiencies for Wayfair.

Max has a wealth of experience in programming and data analysis, having worked as a programmer/analyst at Planning-inc from October 2014 to December 2015, and as a data scientist at Coinometrics from June 2014 to September 2014. Max also has experience in software development, having worked as a software developer at Optiver from June 2016 to July 2018.

Max is skilled in a range of programming languages and technologies, including Python, PySpark, Airflow, Docker, R, SQL, Hive, Vertica and Git. Max has experience developing and deploying various types of models, including Boosted Trees, Neural Nets and Time-Series Regressions.

At Wayfair, Max took joint responsibility for both technical lead and manager on the team. Max was responsible for designing technical architectures and running the team's hiring efforts. Max also formed a strong partnership with product and other planners, building out and advancing engineering roadmaps.

Max Steele has a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Bristol. Max also has a certification from Microsoft in MCPS: Microsoft Certified Professional. Additionally, they have a certification from Common Purpose in Front Runner Certificate in Leadership.
