Shelter for Help in Emergency
Jada Cox is currently serving as an SDV Preventionist for Underserved Youth at the Shelter for Help in Emergency since June 2023. Prior experience includes working as a Body Positive Education & Outreach Specialist at the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women's Center at the University of Virginia from June 2022 to May 2023, where the focus was on addressing body image through an intersectional, radical self-love approach. Jada also spent three years at the Sexual Assault Resource Agency as a Bystander Empowerment Specialist, implementing Green Dot trainings to promote community engagement against sexual violence. Additional roles include an internship as a Food & Beverage Intern at Sankaty Head Golf Club and Events & Marketing Manager Assistant at DC Prime Steaks-Lobsters, as well as an internship with the National Contract Management Association. Jada is pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University, with an expected graduation in March 2026, having previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from James Madison University.

Shelter for Help in Emergency
Since 1979, the Shelter for Help in Emergency has worked to support and empower victims of domestic/intimate partner violence through a combination of trauma-informed residential and community-based outreach services, including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, safety planning, information and referral, resource assistance, legal advocacy and court accompaniment, supportive counseling, outreach to the Spanish-speaking community, and programs for children and youth.
