Ian McRae is a seasoned professional in landscape architecture and urban design, currently serving as a Project Strategist and Innovation Designer at Sherwood Design Engineers since January 2020. In addition to this role, Ian is a University Lecturer at both UC Berkeley's College of Engineering and College of Environmental Design. Ian has held various positions including Urban Design Consultant at ENVI-MET, Visiting Professor at the University of Tennessee, and Research Data Analyst at UC Berkeley, showcasing a strong background in sustainable design and environmental performance metrics. Ian holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Environmental Biology, complemented by a minor in Forestry and Natural Resources. Early professional experience includes roles as a Data Analyst in automotive racing and a Volunteer Research Assistant in algae molecular biology.

Sherwood Design Engineers is a site civil engineering practice committed to the optimal integration of ecology, infrastructure, and design. Our headquarter is in San Francisco with Offices and Studios located in San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Petaluma, and Santa Cruz. We specialize in water management strategies and water resources engineering. We document site infrastructure as well as master plan engineering solutions at a campus, neighborhood, and district scale. Important to our engineering practice is our ability to span building and landscape.
