Debbie Strang has a diverse work experience with multiple roles and accomplishments. Debbie began their career as an Operations Officer in the Royal Air Force from 1986 to 1994. Debbie then worked as a Tourism & Economic Development Manager at the Cairngorms National Park Authority from 1995 to 2006, where they developed a Sustainable Tourism Strategy and achieved the first European Charter for Sustainable Tourism for a UK National Park. In 2009, Debbie became the Director of Saxa Vord Resort, contributing to its growth from zero visitors to over 6,500 bednights per year. In 2014, they co-founded and became the Director of Business Development at the Shetland Distillery Company, where they successfully launched award-winning gins. Currently, Debbie holds the positions of Chief Operating Officer at SaxaVord Spaceport and Director of Shetland Space Centre since 2017, contributing to the development of space initiatives in Shetland.
Debbie Strang started their education in 1978 at Droitwich High School, where they studied Geography, Economics, and Biology until 1983. After completing their high school education, they joined the University of Plymouth in 1983 and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in Geography.
