Amr is a seasoned medical device entrepreneur with over 30 years of healthcare experience. He is the founder and CEO of Shifamed LLC, a successful and well-established medical innovation hub headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley. Legacy portfolio companies that Amr has held a leadership role in including Embolic Protection Inc. (acquired by Boston Scientific, 2001), Sadra Medical (acquired by Boston Scientific, 2011), Maya Medical (acquired by Covidien, 2012), Kalila Medical (acquired by Abbott, 2016), Apama Medical (acquired by Boston Scientific, 2017) and NuVera Medical (acquired by Biosense Webster, a Johnson & Johnson company, 2020).

Shifamed and its dedicated management team have raised over $300 Million to date for its portfolio companies. Current portfolio companies include four focused on cardiovascular, two in the ophthalmology space, and one SaaS company. All portfolio companies are initiated, funded, and operated by Shifamed, with Amr serving as the Chairman of the Board. Each company is an independent Delaware entity led by an experienced CEO with a focused team and strategically structured for rapid integration upon acquisition. To date, Shifamed has grown to over 180 employees across a six-building campus.

Shifamed has over 350 U.S. patent applications pending and issued worldwide, with Amr as either the inventor or co-inventor on over 200. Amr holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
