Per-Ivar Nikolaisen has a long history of work experience. Per-Ivar started as a journalist for Aftenposten in 1999, then moved to Dagsavisen in 2004. In 2006 they became a journalist for Bistandsaktuelt. In 2009 they were the Chief Communications Officer for Forum for Environment and Development. In 2010 they were a Member of the Board for Internasjonal Reporter. From 2011 to 2015 they were a journalist for Teknisk Ukeblad (Technology Review Weekly) and Dagens Næringsliv, focusing on infrastructure, energy and climate. In 2015 they became an independent journalist and in 2016 they became the Editor and founder of Shifter.no. Per-Ivar also served as a Sensor at Høgskolen i Oslo in 2008.

Per-Ivar Nikolaisen completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Development Studies and Media from Oslo and Akershus University College between 1999 and 2003. Prior to that, they attended Bjørkelangen videregående skole from 1993 to 1997.
