Alexandros Ginnis is an Associate Professor at the Ship Design & Maritime Transport Division of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (sNAME) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece, where he has been working since 2004. He holds a Diploma in Naval Engineering (1991) from sNAME and a Ph.D. (2003) obtained in the same School. During his postgraduate studies and for a period of two years (1996-1998), Dr. Ginnis worked as a researcher-programmer at the CAD Team of Mercedes-Benz AG in Stuttgart, Germany, and participated in the development of the in-house CAD-CAM system SYRKO. His research interests include: Geometric Modeling, CAD and Computer-Aided Ship Design, Isogeometric Analysis in Ship Design and Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality with Applications to Ship Design. He has (co)authored about 40 peer-reviewed papers published in reputable international scientific journals and conference proceedings, with more than 500 citations. He has received the Best paper Award - First Place in the ACM Symposium on Solid and Physical Modeling for the year 2006. He is a reviewer of the Journals: Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Geometric Design and Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. He has participated in several research projects funded by the EU and the Greek Government.
