Georgios Bourtzos was born in 1965 in Athens. He attended Athens College and upon graduation received a scholarship for Georgia Institute of Technology where he graduated first of his class in 1987 with a BA in Chemical Engineering. He then enrolled Princeton University as a PhD student on a graduate fellowship and received his MA in Chemical Engineering after passing the PhD qualifying general exams. At Princeton University he worked and published his first proposition with advisor professor Yiannis Kevrekidis, on "Nonlinear Time Series Analysis for System Identification and Global Characterization of Low-Dimensional Dynamical Systems", while working as a Research Assistant at the Los Alamos National Laboratories / T-7 Center of Non-Linear Studies.
In 1989, taking a leave of absence from Princeton University he joined Salomon Brothers Inc. as a Research Associate in the Bond Portfolio Analysis (BPA) Hedge Group, Salomon's fixed income derivatives research unit and premier quant research group in Wall Street at the time. In 1992 he joined the Foreign Exchange Desk as Vice President and Head of Short Dated Options and Volatility Trading. In 1995 he moved to London as Head of USD/DEM Spot and Proprietary Trading responsible for a risk portfolio of spot and currency option positions in all major and emerging markets.
In 1999 he moved back to NY and co-founded EWorld Fund Ltd., a specialty and pioneering Hedge Fund investing in the most innovative technology sectors, long term macro and technology minerals. In 2001, he co-founded EWorld Technology Fund LP, a US based technology-oriented Hedge Fund that he managed till 2013.
In 2013 he returned to Greece and founded Thetidos Capital Management LTD, a Real Estate Investment Fund set to acquire prime beachfront properties in the Greek islands and joined as CEO Luxurios IKE till 2016, to work on the development of the largest private beachfront estate in the Greek islands.
In 2018, he co-founded ShipReality Inc., an innovative deep-tech startup designing state-of-the design automation software for shipping with Mixed Reality, with three Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering professors at the National Technical University of Athens, Lambros Kaiktsis (a Princeton University classmate from the late 80’s), Christos Papadopoulos and Alexandros Ginnis.
