Derek Hernandez has a diverse work experience in the creative industry. Derek started their career as a student at the American Academy of Art and graduated in 2011. In 2012, they interned at Gallery 400, where they gained experience in photography and media database management.

In 2013, Derek joined American Eagle Outfitters as a Visual Lead, responsible for visual merchandising and creating engaging displays. After a year, they transitioned to Macy's as a Visual Artist, where they continued to utilize their creative skills in visual merchandising until 2019.

During the same period, Derek also pursued freelance work as a Fashion Illustrator and Fine Artist under their own brand, Derek Hernandez Illustration.

In 2019, they joined Shiraleah as a Visual Coordinator, collaborating with the Creative Director to plan and install showroom visuals and merchandising. Derek also worked closely with photographers to style product images for catalog, web, and social media.
