Kaz Nejatian is Shopify’s VP of Product and Chief Operating Officer and has been at Shopify since 2019. Prior to becoming COO, Kaz was VP of Product, Merchant Services, and Commercial.
Kaz oversees a cross-functional team that develops and delivers tools for entrepreneurs to supercharge their growth on Shopify. These products give independent merchants access to commerce innovations that have historically only been available to big businesses. After working as a lawyer in his early career, Kaz parlayed his life interests of entrepreneurship, finance, and technology into co-founding and serving as the CEO of Kash, a payment technology company which was acquired in 2017 by one of the largest fintech companies in the U.S. Kaz then served as Product Lead for Payments and Billing at Facebook, reducing the barriers for businesses in cash-dependent markets to purchase digital ads without a credit card.
Kaz is a graduate of Queen’s University’s School of Business and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. Along with being a key player in making commerce better for everyone, he is also a husband and the proud father of three children.

Over a decade ago, Shopify started a store to sell snowboards online. None of the ecommerce solutions at the time gave them the control they needed to be successful—so they built their own. Today, businesses of all sizes use Shopify, whether they’re selling online, in retail stores, or on-the-go. Shopify is a leading global commerce company, providing trusted tools to start, grow, market, and manage a retail business of any size. Shopify makes commerce better for everyone with a platform and services that are engineered for reliability, while delivering a better shopping experience for consumers everywhere. Shopify helps people achieve independence by making it easier to start, run, and grow a business. They believe the future of commerce has more voices, not fewer, so they are reducing the barriers to business ownership to make commerce better for everyone. With Shopify, merchants can build and customize an online store and sell in multiple places, including web, mobile, in person, brick-and-mortar locations, and pop-up shops and across multiple channels from social media to online marketplaces. Shopify is completely cloud-based and hosted, which means you can access it from any connected compatible device and they will handle software and server upgrades and maintenance for you. This gives you the flexibility to access and run your business from anywhere with an internet connection. On any given day, a commerce business requires an array of tools to manage products, inventory, payments, and shipping—and they spend a lot of time and money stitching the disparate systems and data together. Shopify groups those technologies together and ensures that you can easily access and integrate any other business tools you need to make Shopify work for your business. Shopify powers over 1.7 million businesses in more than 175 countries and is trusted by brands such as Allbirds, Gymshark, PepsiCo, Staples, and many more.
