Robert Calhoun started their career at Quantum Corporation in 1996 as a Graduate Research Assistant, where they developed high-resistivity, high-field magnetic materials. Robert was granted a patent for a process related to their work. In 1999, they moved to ShotSpotter, Inc., where they held the role of Principal Engineer. At ShotSpotter, Robert led the Detection Team responsible for acoustic gunshot detection, location, and classification for the ShotSpotter system. Robert worked on a range of projects, including back-end server infrastructure, embedded software for acoustic sensors, and developing AJAX-heavy HTML5 apps for internal monitoring and reporting.
Robert Calhoun earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science & Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1990. Robert later went on to complete their Ph.D. in Metallurgy from the same institution in 1998.
