John Thamela has extensive experience in community engagement and development within the mining sector, currently serving as the Community Engagement and Development Unit Manager at Sibanye-Stillwater since May 2018, following a role as Community Engagement and Development Superintendent. Prior to this, John held the position of Human Capital Development Superintendent at Sibanye Gold from February 2012 to April 2018, where responsibilities included managing ABET Centres and implementing a language initiative. John's career began at Driefontein Gold Mine as Supervisor ETD, overseeing the ABET Community Centre and the well-being department from January 2008 to February 2012. Academically, John has pursued advanced studies, obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from MANCOSA and an MBA from North-West University, along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the same institution and a BA Degree in Humanities from UNISA.
