Sergio Avila is a seasoned professional in conservation and outdoor programming, serving as a Board Member for Running Industry Diversity Coalition and ReNew Earth Running since 2023 and 2021, respectively. Currently, as the Local Outdoors Senior Program Coordinator at Sierra Club since 2017, Sergio designs volunteer recruitment and training initiatives aimed at enhancing outdoor programming and fostering diversity in nature engagement. Previous experience includes volunteering for the City of Tucson's Commission on Climate, Energy and Sustainability and serving on boards for various organizations such as the Society for Conservation Biology North America and Watershed Management Group. Sergio holds a Master's degree in Arid Lands Ecosystem Management from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes.
