Matt Merrick

Primary Therapist at Sierra Tucson

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Matt has strong compassion and empathy for individuals struggling with mental illness and relationship problems. He enjoys helping people find and utilize their own internal strengths to live their best lives. Matt’s approach to therapy is primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and he utilizes several modalities, including individual, couples and group counseling.

Matt has experience in a variety of roles and treatment settings. Matt previously served as counselor at a private outpatient counseling agency, providing interventions in domestic violence, anger management, life skills, substance abuse, general mental health disorders, individual, and couples therapy. He also has worked in a Level 1 psychiatric unit providing professional case management services to psychiatric patients on a 48-bed unit. In that setting, he was an integral part of a treatment team comprised of psychiatrists, case managers, pharmacists, therapists, and utility review professionals. He is a graduate of Walden University with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Currently, in addition to working at Sierra Tucson as a primary counselor, Matt maintains a small private practice that provides general mental health counseling and couples therapy to members of the community. He enjoys the growth opportunity of working with other Sierra Tucson clinicians, staff, and psychiatrists in a collaborative setting to achieve successful treatment outcomes.
