Steve Calkins has extensive experience in mechanical engineering, currently serving as the Mechanical Engineering Manager and Project Engineer at SierraThermal, Inc. since October 1999. In this role, Steve specializes in machine design for high-temperature, controlled atmosphere thermal processing equipment, with operations involving temperatures reaching 1050°C and oxygen levels as low as <10 ppm. Prior to this, Steve worked as a maintenance mechanic at Columbia Pacific Extrusion from June 1989 to June 1999, where the company was also known as Ametek, Ketema, and Indalex. Steve's career began in the US Navy, where from May 1983 to May 1989, responsibilities included operating and maintaining the propulsion system on the USS Houston, SSN-713, a nuclear-powered submarine. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University, obtained between 1995 and 1999.
