Kurtis S. Baron, GISP, CFM, is a seasoned GIS professional currently serving as a Senior GIS Analyst II at Atkins, where responsibilities include integrating GIS into water resources engineering and processing hydrologic data using ArcGIS and Python. As a member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity since December 2016, Kurt Baron contributes to a community dedicated to supporting academics in their career transitions. Additionally, Kurt Baron has been an active member and board member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, since May 2001, and served as a Faculty Lecturer at San Diego State University, teaching GIS for Health from August 2015 to December 2019. Kurt Baron's career began as GIS Manager at WEST Consultants, Inc., from September 2001 to April 2015, after earning a MA/BA in Physical Geography and GIS from San Diego State University between 1998 and 2001.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society is the international honor society of science and engineering. The Society has nearly 100,000 members who were elected to membership based on their research achievements or potential. More than 500 Sigma Xi chapters in North America and around the world provide a supportive environment for interdisciplinary research at colleges and universities, industry research centers, and government laboratories. More than 200 members have won the Nobel Prize. The Society is based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Sigma Xi publishes American Scientist, a research magazine.
