John Watters

John Watters has extensive experience in linguistic research and translation advisory roles, currently serving as a Linguistic Researcher and Translation Adviser at SIL International since October 1973, while also acting as a Special Advisor to the Executive Director. Watters held leadership positions at the Summer Institute of Linguistics from May 2008 to May 2016, including President and International Executive Director. Additionally, Watters served as International Executive Director at Wycliffe Bible Translators International from January 2000 to December 2007, and held the role of Africa Area Director from October 1989 to October 1999. Earlier experience includes directing Oregon SIL from September 1985 to August 1990. Watters holds a PhD and MA in Linguistics from UCLA and a BA in History from the University of California, Berkeley. Further theological studies were pursued at Fuller Theological Seminary.
