Shamir Karkal

Shamir Karkal is the Co-Founder and CEO at Sila. Shamir has over fifteen years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to Sila, Shamir was an Advisory Committee Member at CGAP from January 2018 to December 2020. Shamir was also the Head of Open APIs at BBVA from October 2015 to August 2017.

Before BBVA, Shamir was a Board Member at Simple Finance from January 2010 to August 2015. Prior to that, they were a Management Consultant at McKinsey & Company from September 2006 to December 2009. There, they were involved in multiple engagements for Fortune 500 corporations, Private Equity firms, and Hedge Funds.

Shamir started their career as a Summer Associate at UBS Securities Co., Ltd from June 2005 to August 2005. Shamir then became a Systems Engineer/Release Manager at Mphasis from January 2003 to June 2004. Lastly, they were a Software Engineer at Intelligent Software Solutions from January 2001 to December 2002.

Shamir Karkal has an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business, an MPIT from SCIT - Symbiosis Centre For Information Technology, and a B.Sc. from Bangalore University. Shamir is also certified by FINRA in Series 24, Series 63 - Uniform Securities Agent, and Series 7 - General Securities Representative.
