Sue McAllister

VP, Marketing & Communications at Silicon Valley Community Foundation

As vice president of marketing and communications, Sue helps communicate the mission of Silicon Valley Community Foundation to a variety of audiences by developing marketing materials that support the foundation’s services and its brand. She is responsible for producing the community foundation’s quarterly e-newsletters as well as annual and financial reports, and for seeking new ways to promote the community foundation to existing partners and prospective donors.

Prior to joining the community foundation in 2012, Sue spent a dozen years as a reporter at the San Jose Mercury News, first writing about residential real estate and later covering a variety of stories for the lifestyle and home and garden pages. For two years she also managed the Wish Book, the paper’s nonprofit charitable organization, which raised more than $500,000 in 2011 for local charities. She has also worked as a reporter at the Los Angeles Times, and as publications director for the admissions office at the University of Southern California.

Sue has a bachelor’s degree in English from Pomona College and two masters’ degrees from the University of Southern California: one in print journalism and one in communications management. She lives in San Mateo County with her husband, kids and cats.
