Ian Stewart Chapman was named Chief Executive and Publisher, Simon & Schuster UK and International in July 2013. In this position, Chapman has full responsibility for the publishing, editorial, marketing and sales functions of Simon & Schuster UK, publishing a full range of adult, children’s and audio titles in both printed and digital formats. The company currently publishes about 200 titles per year in first format, of which 20 percent originate from the parent company.

Chapman also holds overall responsibility for Simon & Schuster Australia and in 2011 added responsibility for Simon & Schuster India.

Chapman joined the company in January 2000 as Managing Director and CEO of Simon & Schuster UK. During his tenure notable authors and books include Chronicles by Bob Dylan, Wilson by Pulitzer Prize-winning author A. Scott Berg, Hard Choices and What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton. The company is home to numerous bestselling and critically acclaimed authors including #1 bestseller Philippa Gregory, Nicci French, Chris Carter, Milly Johnson, Tom Rob Smith, Graham Swift, Philipp Meyer, Hari Kunzru, Cho Nam-joo, Martin Cruz Smith, Rachel Hore and Santa Montefiore. The company has also enjoyed great non-fiction success including the one million copy UK bestseller The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, and Sunday Times bestselling authors Phil Knight, Walter Isaacson, Rupi Kaur and Dave Grohl.

Under Chapman’s direction, Simon & Schuster UK’s Children’s Books publishes an array of award-winning and bestselling authors and illustrators. In picture books, stand-out successes include Sue Hendra & Paul Linnet’s million-copy selling Supertato series, Benji Davies’s The Storm Whale sequence, and new talent Steve Small. In fiction commercial hits include Ben Miller, one of the UK’s fastest growing children’s authors, and the Dragon Realm series by Katie and Kevin Tsang. The YA list is one of the most successful in the market publishing Adam Silvera, Becky Albertalli and Cassandra Clare amongst other global bestsellers.

Prior to joining Simon & Schuster, Chapman was Managing Director of Macmillan General Books, with overall publishing responsibility for the Macmillan, Picador, Pan and Sidgwick & Jackson imprints. He has also held editorial and publishing positions at Pan Macmillan, Hodder & Stoughton, and in the United States at William Morrow, Berkley and Doubleday. Chapman was a member of the Publishers Association Council for eight years, and is an acting member of the Trade Publishers Council.
