Eileen Crawford MD, first came to the University of Michigan for specialized fellowship training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. She returned to her home state of Delaware after completing her training, where she worked as a community-based Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. She thoroughly enjoyed caring for the local high school and collegiate athletic teams and developed an affinity for treating the young athletes. The emphasis on education, cutting-edge research and idea-sharing among colleagues that she had experienced at the University of Michigan ultimately drew her back to Ann Arbor. She is excited to join her mentors in the Sports Medicine department at the University of Michigan, while also developing a pediatric sports medicine niche within the group.
Dr. Crawford is a graduate of Princeton University, where she was a national champion in Women’s Lightweight Rowing. This experience allows her to understand the goals of the competitive athlete in recovering from injury. She understands that patients have varying needs during this recovery process, so she believes that one of her most important tasks is to listen to her patients concerns and develop a strategy that works well for each individual. In addition to the care she will provide for the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University athletic teams, she has volunteered as a team medical provider for the US Rowing Team.
