Andrea Ippolito is a biomedical engineer and mom of two. Andrea began their career in 2010 as Manager of Business Operations & Customer Research at Topera Medical, which was later acquired by Abbott. In 2010, they also earned an M.S. in Systems Design & Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management. In 2013, they started a PhD program at MIT, but left after one year to pursue a Presidential Innovation Fellowship at the White House Office of Science + Technology Policy and General Services Administration. In 2012, they became Product Innovation Manager at athenahealth and Co-Founder of Smart Scheduling, which was later acquired by athenahealth in 2016. In 2015, they became the Director of the VA Innovators Network at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. From 2017 to 2020, they were a Lecturer at Cornell University's College of Engineering and SC Johnson College of Business. In 2019, they founded SimpliFed, a telehealth platform democratizing access to baby feeding and breastfeeding services. In 2020, they served as a senior adviser for the Biden-Harris transition's Agency Review Team focused on technology modernization at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Andrea Ippolito began their educational journey at Burlington High School, where they graduated in 2002. Andrea then attended Cornell University, earning a B.S. in Biological Engineering in 2006, and a Master of Engineering in 2007. Andrea then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning an M.S. in Engineering & Management, Systems Design & Management Fellow from the School of Engineering & Sloan School of Management in 2010. Andrea began a Ph.D. program at MIT in 2013, but did not complete it.
