Mechanical Engineer at Simworx

Rene Masey has been working in the engineering field since 1997. Rene began their career as a Project Engineer at Unilever, where they managed all aspects of engineering capital expenditure projects from initial concept and cost analysis to machinery selection, installation and commissioning. Rene also designed new production lines and modified existing processes to meet changing requirements for new products, increased capacity and efficiency.

In 2001, they became a Mechanical Design Engineer for a self-employed business. From 2007 to 2008, they served as a Research Assistant at The University of Salford, where they designed and built an electro-pneumatic machine and hygienically designed gripper for ready meal assembly. Rene also carried out automation audits for several food manufacturing companies.

From 2008 to 2012, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Fellow at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, where they designed, built and tested a hygienic, low-cost, high-speed robotic arm for use in the food industry. Rene also personally executed all aspects of the robot's mechanical design, integration of electrical and control systems, real-time software engineering, networking and the development of optimised trajectory planning algorithms.

From 2012 to 2016, they worked as a Senior Mechatronics Research Engineer and Research Engineer at Dyson. In 2019, they became a Mechanical Engineer at Simworx and also worked as a Mechanical Engineer at ROBOCOASTER LIMITED, where they designed, built and tested an 8-seat, trackless, passenger carrying Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) used in theme park, dark ride attractions. Rene also worked with a multidisciplinary team of dedicated engineers and engineering contractors to develop the vehicle from initial concept through to first article production.

Rene Masey's education history includes a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Robotics and Automation Engineering from The University of Sheffield (2006-2011), a Master of Science - MSc in Robotics and Automation from The University of Salford (2004-2005), and a Master of Engineering - MEng in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Manchester (1992-1996).
