B. Sonny Bal MD, MBA, JD, PhD has held various positions in the medical field throughout their career. B. Sonny began their professional journey in 1994 as a Research Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1995, they became an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Partner at Jackson County Orthopaedics, Inc. From 1999 to 2005, they were a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Missouri Health Care. From 2005 to 2014, they served as an Adjunct Professor at Missouri S&T. B. Sonny then moved on to become the CEO & President of Amedica Corporation from 2014 to 2018. Currently, they are the CEO & President of SINTX Technologies.

B. Sonny Bal obtained their High School Diploma from Delhi Public School - R. K. Puram in 1978. B. Sonny then attended San Joaquin Delta College, obtaining an Associate of Arts (AA) in Biology in 1981. B. Sonny continued their education at the University of California, Davis, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Genetics in 1982. B. Sonny then attended Joan & Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University, obtaining a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1987. Bal then completed a Two year preliminary surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 1989, followed by an Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine from 1989 to 1993. B. Sonny then completed a Fellowship in Hip and Implant Surgery, Post-graduate year 7 at Harvard Medical School in 1994. Bal went on to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management in 1999. In 2002, they obtained their Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Missouri-Columbia, School of Law. Finally, Bal obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Engineering from the Kyoto Institute of Technology (Japan) in 2016. Additionally, Bal has obtained certifications from the Missouri Bar Examination, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, recertified.
