Fergus McMillan

Head Of Equality, Diversity And Inclusion at Skills Development Scotland

Fergus McMillan has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Fergus most recently held the position of Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Skills Development Scotland since May 2019. Prior to that, they served as the Senior Equality and Diversity Advocate at the same organization from May 2019 to September 2021.

Before joining Skills Development Scotland, Fergus worked at LGBT Youth Scotland for a significant part of their career. Fergus began as a Training Development Worker in 2003 and subsequently held roles such as Policy Manager, Director of Policy & Strategy, and Chief Executive. As Chief Executive, Fergus led the national youth charity that works with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender young people. During their tenure, the charity employed 30 staff members and had 100 active volunteers.

Fergus also gained experience as a Research Consultant at New Media Partners from 2002 to 2003 and as a Research/Strategy Executive at Scottish Enterprise from 1998 to 2000.

Overall, Fergus has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion throughout their career, particularly in advocating for the rights and well-being of LGBT youth.

Fergus McMillan completed their Clore Fellowship in Organizational Leadership at Clore Social Leadership from 2020 to 2021. Prior to this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Human Rights & Citizenship at Glasgow Caledonian University starting in 2011, with an unknown end year. Fergus's educational journey began in 1993 when they enrolled at Glasgow Caledonian University and obtained a degree in Social Sciences with a focus on Political Science, completing their studies in 1997.
