Skokie Park District
As the Aquatics & Special Facilities Manager, Runkle is responsible for overseeing and managing the district’s aquatics operations, including Skokie Water Playground, Devonshire Aquatic Center, Dammrich Rowing Center, and Pooch Park. He supervises staff, handles scheduling, and manages the programming of various aquatic activities such as swimming lessons, aqua aerobics, and pool rentals. Runkle also collaborates with local high schools to secure swim programming times at their indoor pools and ensures the safe operation of all facilities, including the management of water chemistry and mechanical systems. Additionally, Runkle maintains positive customer relations while ensuring excellent service and safety standards.
Runkle treasures spending time with his family in his free time. A unique fact about him is that he and his three children are all left-handed! Pizza is his go-to comfort food, and he’s a loyal Cubs fan. His favorite band is The Who.

The Skokie Park District takes pride in its ability to serve the more than 63,000 residents of Skokie, Illinois and its customers throughout Chicagoland. Whether protecting natural resources, preserving historical sites or providing thousands of unique recreational opportunities within its more than 240 acres of parkland, the district has offered a multitude of quality programs since 1928. In addition to its diverse array of programs and special events, the Skokie Park District also offers summer camps, state-licensed full-day childcare and preschool, and before- and after-school care for grades K-5. The district is a past winner of the “National Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.”
