Botao Liu

Senior Director, Bioinformatics at Skyhawk Therapeutics

Botao Liu has a wealth of experience in bioinformatics. Botao began their career in 2010 as a Research Assistant at Cornell University, where they researched the molecular mechanism underlying the translational reprogramming in cellular stress response. In 2013, they took on a role as an Intern at Life Technologies, where they participated in the development, optimization and validation of Ion Proton products. That same year, they also became a Teaching Assistant at Cornell University's Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, where they prepared and presented lectures, supervised genetic labs and held office hours. In 2015, they joined the University of Massachusetts Medical School as a Bioinformatician II, where they collaborated with Principal Investigator (PI), experimental biologists, and external computational biologists to translate high-throughput data into biologically interpretable results and testable hypotheses in neurological diseases such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In 2018, they began their current role as Senior Director of Bioinformatics at Skyhawk Therapeutics, where they are responsible for developing a bioinformatics platform to support the drug discovery programs, analyzing, interpreting and summarizing RNA-seq data for the target identification, transcriptome-wide compound activity evaluation, and MoA characterization, and assisting the business development team with partner target evaluation.

Botao Liu received a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biological Sciences from Zhejiang University in 2009. Botao then went on to receive their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Genetics, Genomics and Development from Cornell University in 2014.
