Changmin Lee has extensive experience in research and development, with a particular focus on III-nitride (GaN-based) optoelectronic devices. Changmin started their career as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Texas at Dallas in 2011 before serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Republic of Korea Air Force from 2006 to 2008. Afterward, they worked as a Graduate Intern at SLD Laser in 2014.
In 2012, Changmin joined UC Santa Barbara, where they held multiple roles. Initially, they served as a Teaching Assistant from September 2012 to June 2013. Changmin then became a Graduate Student Researcher under the advisory of Prof. Steven DenBaars, focusing on the development of high-speed GaN visible laser diodes and related photonic devices. Changmin worked on growth, fabrication, and characterization for III-N devices until September 2017.
From October 2017 to August 2018, Changmin served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Santa Barbara, leading the project on high-speed GaN-based optoelectronic device development. The project involved the demonstration of solid-state lighting and free-space communication systems using various optical components and color converters.
In 2018, Changmin joined STMicroelectronics as a Staff Engineer for a brief period from August to December. Changmin then joined KYOCERA SLD Laser in 2019, initially as an R&D Process Development Engineer until June 2020. Currently, they hold the position of R&D Senior Process Engineer at KYOCERA SLD Laser.
Changmin Lee attended Kyungpook National University from 2005 to 2010, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. After that, they pursued further education at The University of Texas at Dallas from 2010 to 2012, obtaining another Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, this time in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Finally, Changmin Lee pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Materials Science at UC Santa Barbara from 2012 to 2017. In addition to their formal education, they also obtained certifications in "Fundamentals of Project Planning and Management" from Coursera in March 2023 and "Introduction to VR, AR, MR and Smart Eyewear: Market Expectations, Hardware Requirements and Investment Patterns" from SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, in March 2018.
