Yiming Zhao

Yiming Zhao has a diverse work experience spanning different companies and roles. They began their career as a Research Assistant at Central South University, where they performed first-principles calculations on the interfaces of hard phases in high-quality die steel. They then moved on to a Research Assistant position at the University of Rochester, where they specialized in materials characterization of AlGaN thin film and Metal-Semiconductor-Metal photodetectors fabrication. They conducted investigations on the crystal structure, surface morphology, and chemical composition of the thin films, and developed processing recipes for ultrafast photodetectors.

Yiming later worked as a Summer Intern at Trumpf Photonics Inc, where they designed and assembled a multi-functional testing station for single emitter laser modules. They also conducted high volume product testing and prepared qualification reports for customers. After that, Yiming joined the Laboratory for Laser Energetic as a Research Assistant, focusing on ultrafast laser testing system design and AlGaN UV photodetector test and analysis. They acquired and analyzed response behaviors and I-V curves of detectors using Matlab and LabVIEW, and provided a customized femtosecond pulsed UV laser source for device testing.

Currently, Yiming is employed at SLD Laser as a Reliability Engineer, where they were initially hired as a Reliability Engineer before progressing to the role of Senior Reliability Engineer. The dates for their roles at SLD Laser are ongoing and not specified.

Yiming Zhao pursued their education in a systematic and progressive manner, culminating in their current academic achievements. Starting from 2008, they attended Central South University for four years, where they earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Materials Science and Engineering. Subsequently, they enrolled at the University of Rochester in 2012, and diligently pursued their studies for six years. During their time there, Yiming Zhao obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Photonics, specializing in this field of study. Through their educational journey, Yiming Zhao has developed a solid foundation in both Materials Science and Engineering, as well as Photonics.
