Umashankar Shivanand has held a variety of roles in the technology industry since 2006. Umashankar began their career as a Design Engineer at LSI LOGIC, where they designed and developed semiconductor chips (SOC) for consumer electronics and networking devices. In 2010, they became a Product Manager at NetApp, developing a business case for unstructured data management software. From 2011 to 2015, they held the role of Senior Product Manager and then Director of Product Management & New Business Development at Philips. Umashankar was responsible for launching ten health and wellness solutions in over 20 countries, scaling to millions of users, and earning multiple design and innovation awards. Umashankar also conceptualized and launched eight new business models across maternity, sleep, oral, and personal health sectors. In 2020, Umashankar Shivanand took on the role of Head of Product at SleepScore Labs, where they lead the product vision, strategy and roadmap for B2C sleep improvement applications and B2B2C sleep platform. Umashankar's team has achieved a 47% boost in user engagement, 3X spike in monthly customer retention, 150% increase in subscription revenues and 18 hours of statistically significant sleep improvement per user per month.

Umashankar Shivanand has an extensive educational background. Umashankar completed their MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in 2011, majoring in Strategy, Marketing, and Economics. In 2018, they completed an Executive Education program from The Wharton School in Negotiation & Persuasion. In 2015, they completed an Executive Education program from MIT Sloan School of Management in Strategy and Innovation. Umashankar also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics & Communication from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (KREC Surathkal), obtained in 2006.
