Joe Wagstaff

Joe Wagstaff has over 10 years of work experience. From 2011 to 2016, they worked as a Flight Attendant for American Airlines. From 2016 to 2022, they worked for Marriott Vacations Worldwide in various roles including Front Desk Manager, Front Desk Supervisor, and Front Desk Associate. In 2022, Joe began working as a Software Engineer for smallstep and simultaneously took on four Personal Projects roles as a Full Stack Engineer. These projects included Project Catwalk, Atelier, FreeTime, and Benchwarmer. For Project Catwalk, they implemented an interactive Q&A module with real time search and API functionality, created modular components, and achieved a time to interactive paint under 1.5s. For Atelier, they built a PostgreSQL database, optimized queries, horizontally scaled using NGINX and multiple AWS EC2 microservices, and identified system bottlenecks using Loader.io and K6 stress testing.

Joe Wagstaff attended Virginia Tech from 2007 to 2011, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Joe is currently enrolled in Hack Reactor's Advanced Software Engineering Immersive program, which they are expected to complete in 2022.
