Evelyn Mitchell currently serves as Principal Planner for the City of Austin and holds the title of Senior Manager, Coalitions and Outreach for Smart Growth America. Prior experience includes roles as an Associate at Justice and Sustainability Associates, LLC, and Equitable Development Manager for THEARC-Building Bridges Across the River, overseeing the 11th St Bridge Park Project. Evelyn's experience also encompasses positions with Fairfax County Government as Co-Equity Lead, and earlier as an Urban Planner and Curriculum Operations Specialist at KIPP Texas Public Schools - Austin. Additional teaching roles were held at KIPP Austin Beacon Prep Middle School and Houston ISD, with a foundation in educational work through Teach For America. Evelyn earned a Master of Science in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Austin College. Study abroad experience includes a focus on Multiculturalism and Human Rights in South Africa.
