Joe Mejia has a diverse work experience in the fields of copy editing, copywriting, and writing. Joe started their career as a freelance copy editor for various online and print publications in 2004. From 2007 to 2011, they worked as a managing editor for Out Magazine, where they managed the editorial team and budget while also writing on art and fashion. Joe then worked as a senior copywriter at Time Inc. from 2011 to 2012. Joe contributed as a copy editor and writer for AT&T, Mental Floss, Popular Science, Time Inc., and TV Guide from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, they became the managing editor of Mental_Floss. Joe also worked as a contributing writer for Essential Homme from 2010 to 2014. From 2015 to 2016, they contributed as a copy editor and copywriter for Art & Auction, Fast Company, Modern Painters, OZY.com, TV Guide, and Doublespace. Lastly, they worked as a copy editor for The National, Amtrak's onboard magazine from 2017 to 2020, and currently holds the position of Copy Chief at Smart + Strong since 2016.
Joe Mejia attended Harvard University from 1989 to 1993, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature.
