Matthew Runkle

Matthew Runkle has a diverse work experience spanning from 2004 to 2022. Matthew is currently serving as the Director of Cloud Engineering at SmartBear since December 2022. In this role, they lead the Cloud Engineering team and oversees the organization's engineering excellence program. Prior to this, Matthew held the position of Director of Application & Product Security at SmartBear from June 2022 to December 2022, where they led the global product security team and managed detection, remediation, and compliance efforts.

Before joining SmartBear, Matthew worked at Veracode from 2015 to 2021. Matthew held various roles, including Software Engineering Manager, Principal Application Security Consultant, Senior Application Security Consultant, and Application Security Consultant. In these positions, they focused on product quality, provided remediation guidance to customers, and designed new service offerings.

From 2014 to 2014, Matthew worked at Corero Network Security as a Security Research Engineer, where they investigated new Denial of Service attacks and developed detection and mitigation capabilities.

Prior to that, they were a Staff Scientist at Raytheon BBN Technologies from 2011 to 2014, where they conducted software security research and developed Android challenge applications.

Matthew also has experience as an Undergraduate Software Engineer at Raytheon BBN Technologies in 2010 and as a Test Automation Intern at General Dynamics C4 Systems in 2009.

Matthew started their career as a Tactical Software Intern at Electric Boat in 2008 and as the Owner/Partner of LCRHosting from 2004 to 2005.

Matthew Runkle completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute between 2007 and 2011. Matthew later pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Cyber Security from New York University from 2013 to 2015.
