Bijal Desai GAICD has extensive work experience in various roles related to risk management, governance, and internal audit. Bijal most recently served as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Acting Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Smartgroup Corporation. Prior to that, they held the position of Head of Group Risk at Woolworths Group. Bijal also worked as the Director of Risk & Governance (Interim) at NSW Treasury. Earlier in their career, Bijal served as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) at VocaLink / Zapp, Global Head of Business Operational Risk Management at Macquarie Bank, and Group Head of Internal Audit at Babcock & Brown. Before that, they held various senior positions at JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and Deutsche Bank.

Bijal Desai GAICD completed the Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2022. In 1994, they obtained the ACA degree from ICAEW. Bijal received their Bachelor's Degree in Money, Banking & Finance from the University of Birmingham in 1991.
