Herman Legtenberg is an experienced managing director currently leading SMI Maritime since January 2024, overseeing five maritime companies that provide innovative solutions for the maritime industry. Prior to this role, Herman served as Director of Technology & Engineering at Dieseko Group BV and held various interim management positions, including General Manager and CFO at SMST Designers & Constructors, and Technical Director at Jansen & Heuning. With a solid foundation in operations, engineering, and project management, Herman has contributed to organizations such as Bollegraaf Recycling Solutions and Nijburg Industrie BV. An alumnus of the University of Twente with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Herman’s expertise encompasses improving business processes and driving operational efficiency across multiple industries.

The core activity of the SMI Groep is manufacturing mechanical parts, components and machines by welding, turning, milling and assembling. Engineering and project management are the basis for a good cooperation of all the disciplines of SMI. The combination of a good preparation, modern techniques and well able professionals are a guarantee for a high end product. The SMI Groep is continually investing in knowledge, efficiency and customer contact. The SMI Groep consist of 3 divisions: SMI Maatwerk - The original core business of SMI where it all started, manufacturing mechanical parts, components and machines. SMI Plaatwerk - Opened in 2004, the sheet metalworking division of SMI is excellently utilised for prototypes as well as small and medium sized series. SMI Verspaning - In the recent years, the SMI Groep has invested in machining machinery due to the high demand. As the requests have grown rapidly, the machining department has become a stand alone business.
