Andy Hess

Andy Hess has held various roles in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. In 2021, they began working as a Senior ML Engineer at Smile Identity, where they are responsible for applying Computer Vision and Machine Learning to "in-the-wild" images of IDs and documents. In 2020, they took on the role of Lead AI Scientist at MEDO.ai. Prior to this, they were the AI Team Lead at Jumio Corporation from 2018-2020 and Chief Scientist at Pair - The showroom in your living room from 2016-2018.

Andy Hess began their educational journey in 1990 when they attended the University of Alberta and obtained a B.Sc. Honors in Mathematics with a minor in Computing Science. Andy continued their studies at the University of Alberta and in 2012, they obtained a Master's Degree in Computing Science. In 2016, they started a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Computing Science, but has not yet completed it.
