Clm Brian Gilman

Brian Gilman, CLM has a diverse and extensive work experience. Brian currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Foundation of ALA since May 2023. Brian previously held the position of Member of the Board of Trustees for the same organization from February 2021 to April 2023.

Prior to their current role, Brian was the Chief Operating Officer for Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, L.L.P., a mid-size law firm in Carolina. Brian joined the firm in December 2001 and held the position until present. As the COO, Brian was responsible for managing the finance and accounting, human resources, information systems, marketing, facilities support, and risk management functions. Brian was also a member of the firm's Executive Committee, involved in strategic planning and business development.

In addition to their legal profession, Brian has also made significant contributions to various organizations. Brian served as an Elder for Christ the King Presbyterian Church since July 2019. Brian also participated in the Midtown Raleigh Alliance, a community non-profit organization, where they served as a member of the Board of Directors, holding an officer position on the Executive Committee.

Brian has been actively involved with the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). Brian served on the Board of Directors from January 2018 to May 2021, contributing to the association's mission of connecting leaders and managers within the legal industry and providing professional development and operational solutions. Brian also served as the Region 2 Representative from May 2016 to May 2017 and was involved in the Financial Management Education Task Force and the Regional Nominating Committee in 2014.

Furthermore, Brian has contributed to the BB&T Payment Solutions Advisory Board as a Board Member from April 2015 to December 2019 and to the Transitioning Lawyers Commission for the North Carolina Bar Association from July 2013 to December 2017. Their work focused on addressing the issues related to winding down law practices, retirement, aging, and cognitive impairment assistance for lawyers.

Brian Gilman, CLM received their Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB) with a focus on Accounting from the University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management. Brian completed their undergraduate education from 1978 to 1982. Additionally, Brian Gilman also holds the Certification as a Certified Legal Manager (CLM) from the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA), obtained in October 2010. Furthermore, they are also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certified by the Minnesota Board of Accountancy, with the exact month of obtaining this certification unknown but in the year 1982.
