Daniel Cole has extensive experience in cartography and geographic information systems, serving as the GIS Coordinator and Chief Cartographer at the Smithsonian Institution since March 1986, where responsibilities include project coordination, training, and overseeing the production of maps for the Handbook of North American Indians. Prior to this role, Daniel worked as a lecturer at Montgomery College, teaching courses in Computer Graphics and Advanced Cartographic Design, and served as a Contract Cartographer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, contributing to the atlas of Georges Bank. Daniel holds a Master of Arts in Geography and Cartography from Oregon State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from the University at Albany, with further education at Michigan State University.
