John Troutman

John Troutman currently serves as the Chair of the Division of Culture & the Arts at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History since November 2023. Additionally, John has been the Curator of Music at the National Museum of American History under the Smithsonian Institution since December 2016. Prior academic roles include serving as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from August 2007 to May 2017. John Troutman earned a Doctor of Philosophy in U.S. History from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master's degree in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Emory University.
